The core of things, 2022

Core-drilled Anglesey limestone and inflatable beach ball

Using Anglesey limestone, this sculpture evokes the coastal landscape of childhood, with its playful performativity and mischief: a throw away beach ball stuffed inside a rock, blown up as though about to burst. Beyond the humour, it points to the darker tensions attached to tourism and conservation, where plastics and rocks, landscapes and bodies, merge in strange and unpredictable strata.
